Adam Dunn vs. Cole Hamels

Looks like we might be facing the Phils big pitching prospect, Cole Hamels, this weekend. He comes highly regarded (his minor league stats say he’s a stud), so I’m interested to see how bad Dunn bashes him.

I can dream….

Look at how the Phillies coddled this guy over several seasons with very low innings pitched and you quite possibly can gain a sense of how Krivsky is going to position Homer Bailey for the future.

I think Hamels has been straight-up injured for most of the past 2-3 years, not coddled.

It was the Phillies plan to only let him pitch 4 games in 2004 and 6 games in 2005? Great plan! Let’s shut Bailey down for the rest of the season!! Is this what the Reds were trying to do with Ty Howington? Limit his pitch counts:?:

In high school, Cole Hamels broke his pitching arm, missing time and dropping him in the draft. He had back spasms in 2003 that kept him from trying out for the Olympic team. He had an elbow problem in 2004 that shelved him most of that year. He apparently got in a bar fight before the 2005 season and broke his left hand. Later in 2005 he had stress fractures in his back that shelved for most of that year.

Injury-prone? You bet. But lights-out when he’s been on the mound in the minors.

Oh, and somewhere in there he also had some kind of triceps injury in his right arm.

Sounds like he should be living in a bubble!

 Ha! Maybe he’ll strike out Dunn swinging and the breeze created will cause him to fall over and sprain his ankle.

Sounds like maybe one of those stints were as a result of tryng to hold his breath for nine minutes

Hamels is a young guy with less than 200 career innings. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles the pressure in the Show, especially if he starts off poorly in a season of high expectations for the Phillies.
