Reds get back on the road tonight, after an outstanding homestand against the Astros and Cardinals. Tonight, the Redlegs take the best record in the majors into Coors Field to face the Rockies. Let’s hope the bats are ready.
Brandon Claussen is on the mound for the good guys. Keep your fingers crossed.
Discuss the game here; I’ll be here eventually, but I’m going to a minor league game in Augusta, GA, tonight, which should be fun.

The Columbus Catfish are beating the Augusta Greenjackets 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth. You know, in case any of you are interested.
Actually, I just looked at my scorecard. It’s 3-0.
Rockies announcer just said EncarNARcion. What is wrong with people? It’s not a difficult name to say.
Felipe Jr. steals third, 10-10 on the bases now.
Actually, I have a difficult time pronouncing it but I slaughter most names more complex than Smith or Jones.
Where is everyone?
Claussen (pronounced Klos-son ) threw only 10 pitches in the 1st. Will wonders never cease.
Claussen K’s the first hitter in the 2nd and American Idol has a Disney-like moment.
OK! Dunn-meister! Bring in Richie!
Things tend to start slow in the comments here, then explode in the last thre innings or so.
Where did we come down on posting images in-line within a comment? Possible or no?
Testing…
not possible, no, otherwise i’d have one to put up.
Has Tom Hume found some magical Kool-Aid that he is serving to the pitching staff?
Oh well – no images, looks like.
Here’s a link to an overlay of Coors Field & Great American (Coors is translucent). Graphics are from the MLB Gamecast.
What I found interesting is that the orientation is nearly opposite. Coors is apparently oriented exactly N-S (batters face north) and Great American is rotated about 160 degrees.
Which explains the winds blowing left to right tonight. Mayb
Has Tom Hume found some magical Kool-Aid that he is serving to the pitching staff?
Maybe the starters are just “chillin” over at Bronson’s “crib”
These Rockies announcers make it sound like the only reason the Reds hit homers is because of GABP. Um, how long have they been in Colorado?
Maybe it explains GABP’s jet stream as well.
Raining in Denver. I sure hope Claussen’s good beginning here holds up and is not erased from the record.
I hope it doesn’t dilute his glass of Kool-Aid
OK time for Claussen to bear down
Did I jinx Claussen? 1st & 2nd, no one out in the fourth.
no, Claussen’s the two-headed monster. you never know which one is pitching at any given moment.
Now there’s a PhotoShop idea. One that could be quite hideous, too. One head smiling and the other one grimacing?
Maybe one head would have a halo while the other has devil horns. It would fit with his “Promise Keeper” image.
You know, in the Simpsons, the Devil looks exactly like Ned Flanders. Yet another similarity for Claussen & Flanders.
Nice escape end of four
Great job by Claussen to keep it scoreless, and eliminate the possibility of a cheap 4.5 inning win for Colorado.
Claussen needs to become that version of Flanders. Maybe he needs to hang out with Freel and his drinking buddies a lot more.
He K’s the guy to end the threat! WHOA!!!
I already did the Claussen two heads, but I do believe, unfortunately, it will be a recurring theme.
Is it still raining in CO? Hard to tell from the Gamecast.
Country Boy needs to give it a poke!!
Not exactly a typical Coors Field type of game.
I’m a bit surprised that denorfia didn’t get the start in cf, the way Freel’s been stinking it up lately.
Announcers say it has become a mist. “Not a Stephen King type Mist, thankfully,” say the Rockies radio guys.
Love those literary references.
As long as they don’t start making references to Dan Fogelberg songs!!
Crap, we had him picked off
There’s that inexperience at first base. Erro by Aurilia after they had the runner picked off.
what we didn’t need was a throwing error.
This will send Claussen off the deep end!!
Having a good fielding catcher comes through there.
Get some freakin’ gonads, Brandon!!! You’re a MLB pitcher!
I don’t think the purpose of this is to serve as a chat board is it? Is there a Reds chat room somewhere?
Dammit, Claussen, bear down. Don’t let this stuff get to you – it’s beyond your control. Concentrate!
John – these game threads are designed for precisely this use. We have hit 300 comments a couple times, which the site admin was very pleased by.
OK, no more runs! Bear down!! The center field looked huge with that ball going over Freel’s head.
Single up the middle really hurt us.
Argh. 3-0. Two runs will be unearned, I think. Can an error on a pickoff be counted as a would-be out, for purposes of the ERA? Not that it matters in terms of the team.
Larue, go out there and slap him along the side of the head!
That center field IS huge.
Is it just me, or did that broken bat look corked on that close up?
Thanks Devil’s Avo.
Yes a swing and a miss!!
The bleeding has stopped!
How pathetic does a hitter have to me to use a corked bat at Coors Field? Besides Sammy Sosa that is!
Oh! and Albert Belle!
Reds’ offense has gone south. Time for Griffey to come back and jolt everyone back to attention.
Aurilia injured? There’s the opening for Griffey.
The Reds better find some of those corked bats because, so far, they aren’t doing Jack at the plate.
How do you get hurt simply running? It seems like there should be more to it, like a SS getting nailed by a guy sliding into 2nd base.
after that rockies inning, i had to go downstairs and get a beer. how’d aurilia get hurt?
How injured? Maybe Rob Stratton gets a call to town.
Griffey get hurt running all the time.
Looks like he pulled a Hamy, he limped off the field. If he had kept running he would have had a single.
Freel!
Well, he’s headed to the DL then.
Do you think Griffey would have caught the ball Freel just nabbed?
here we go!
just means griffey better come back. what a vacation he’s had.
Man, Francis has been owning our lineup today. Tough to blank anyone at Coors field, let alone our precious reds.
Well, provided Larue extends the inning, Bipolar Brandon should be done for the night. All in all, not too bad of a performance.
Okay! He gets to stick around one more inning.
Big inning for Claussen.
The 7th has been pretty good so far, 2 up 2 down, one more to go!
Eddie makes some dumb throws. Nice stop though!
6 2/3 Innings 3 runs.. still a quailty start if the runner on 1st doesn’t score
So Bellisle comes in to get the final out then we pinch hit for him.
OK1 We have a guy with a litter bag on his head. If his girlfriend saw it, she dumps him.
Nice play by Phillips on a horrid throw by Larue.
I never did see the ump make the out signal.
OK! Chambliss! We need some hitting Kool-Aid!!
It was strike 3 at the plate, so no play at 2nd.
Pinch-hitter, then Freel, then Lopez, and Dunn with runners on.
he wasn’t out because it was strike three and the third out of the inning.
That’s explains it. Leave it to George Grande to confuse the crap out of the whole thing.
Mesa has a purple glove! What is he? Michael Jackson?
I can’t believe we are getting shut out in Colorado – NFW !
Rain is back – radar looks like it will be raining there for another hour+.
15 day DL for the groin pull? If Griffey isn’t activated this time, well the day to day bull will have to be explained. maybe/maybe not.
Come on, Felipe! Get this party started!!
3 runs can be Dunn
Must be jet lag or something tonight for the offense.
3 good plays on ground balls retire the Reds in order. It’s Coors Field! Hit the ball in the air!
Well, you can’t hit a 3 run homer with only 1 on base. Need to come up with another plan
I keep getting stopped by the spam filter – any help?
I can’t believe we are getting shut out in Col!!!! NFW!!!!
The Reds need to load them up next inning and have Kearns hit a game winning slam.
Mr. “16.20″ now enters the game
Hammond has pitched well since the first week.
Currently, he is Mr. “14.29″
Well 13.50 is a huge improvement from the ERA of infinity.
All the way down to 13.50 now – that’s 3 runs for every two innings pitched.
How many fly balls tonight? Sounds like a lot of balls getting dirty tonight
let’s get it started:!::!::!:
For the Reds offense through 8, 9 fly outs, and 10 ground outs. At least two of the “flyouts” were pop-ups.
rats. :evil::evil::evil::evil:
That’s the game. Shutout at altitude.
Quick game! Less than 2½ hours?
Hello, everyone. I just got back from my basketball league (still winless, after leading by 15 in the 1st half), and I’m ready to comment about a Coors slugfest!
What? Er, see you tomorrow.
OK Aaron, show the stuff tomorrow!
:evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil:
Have I already forgotten how to deal with losing?
I blame it on the rain!
Looks like a Carl Lindner clone has been selected as the new owner of the Nationals.
Better than the other guy.
He’s one sick puppy (pun intended)!
