AAA

Indianapolis 10, Louisville 0

Michael Gosling likely missed his chance to come up and pitch for the Reds after this game. He went 5 innings giving up 8 hits, 5 ER, and 2 walks. Gosling struck out 4. His ERA for the year jumped to a still respectable 3.94. He has 12 Ks in 16 IP, and he has walked only 3.

AA

Chattanooga 9, West Tennessee 2

27 year-old Norris Hopper, who was recently demoted from Louisville went 2 for 3 with a double and 4 RBI. 25 year-old Aaron Herr continues to rake the ball, going 3 for 4 with a HR, and 2 RBI. For the season Herr is hitting .271/.307/.571.

HIGH A

Tampa 7, Sarasota 5

23 year-old Drew Anderson, went 3 for 4 with a 2B, and 2 RBI. Anderson, from THE Ohio State, is hitting .319/.396/.596. At his age he needs to be doing this one level up at Chattanooga.

LOW A

Dayton 2, Kane County 1

Carlos Fisher threw an absolute gem for the Dragons. Fisher tossed 6 1/3rd scoreless innings, giving up only 3 hits, walking 1, and striking out 9. Fisher lowered his ERA to 3.74 for the year. After 4 starts he has thrown 21 IP with 17Ks, and a WHIP under 1.00.

  • Dayton’s climbing back into contention. If their bullpen could ever hold a lead, they’d be a contender. There have no been many games they haven’t been in (or had the lead late) in the first month of the season.

A major change from the past two seasons.

It’s a different farm, but at least Midwest League-related. I read today on Prospectus (subscription) that Will Venable, son of former Red Max, is tearing it up at Fort Wayne. Max Venable is the hitting coach at Fort Wayne, having come over from the Dragons before last season. It’s an interesting story. Apparently, Will Venable was an all-Ivy basketeball and baseball player at Princeton (Mom was a college basketball player), and only recently focused on baseball. He’s 23, but still raw.
