DDN announces Dragons rotation

From the DDN:

…a five-man starting rotation, beginning with left-handers Travis Wood and Philippe Valiquette and right-handers Zach Ward, Carlos Fisher and John Cueto.

Wood and Ward are the Reds 2nd and 3rd round picks from last year.

Valiquette is a 19 year old LHP that the Reds are apparently very high on. He was selected in the 7th round of the draft in ‘04 and was on and off the Dragons roster last year. He struggled mightly with his control.

I’m assuming that Charles and Carlos Fisher are the same person. If so, he was the Reds 11th round pick in 2005 and pitched at Billings last year and was reasonably effective with a 4.19 ERA and 45 Ks in 53 2/3 innings.

John Cuetro pitched for the GCL Reds most of the season, but finished the season throwing a few innings for the Sarasota Reds.

I thought Ward was a reliever?

  • I don’t know, I can’t find any info on his college career and he didn’t pitch for the Reds at all last year. I’ll know on Saturday, when I’ll be attending my first game of the year and it appears he’ll be pitching.

Its another pick I’m thinking of. I thought Ward was the relief pitcher from Niagra, but Ward started 15 of 20 games at Gardner Webb according to the Baseball Cube.
