Dominicans and their visas

When “age-gate” took hold of baseball after 9/11, and the government started checking into visas (and birthdates were actually examined), it turned out that many of the “age” discrepancies that plagued baseball player evaluation turned out to be Dominicans (who cares if Tony Perez actually came from Cuba with his brother’s papers, right?).

Well, some clever Dominicans have been caught in another “visa” scandal…see this article from ESPN where players were marrying to give women transport to the USA…with plans of immediate divorce upon arrival. The article does not mention the names of the players, all minor leaguers…
